Think that exploration time is just play time? Think again! We are busy developing our citizenship skills; sharing, taking turns, and problemsolving when things don't go as planned. We are also hard at work growing our creative abilities! Using different materials throughout our classroom children are encouraged to work together or independently to create and grow their ideas. As we continue to discover and grow we have also added more outlets for that creativity such as a large creation station. If you have clean recyclables (i.e. egg cartons, yogurt cups, toilet paper tubes) to add to our bin of materials send them on in! It is amazing to see what fantastic things can be made from so little.
Kids not only need to read a lot but they need lots of books they can read right at their fingertips. They also need access to books that entice them, attract them to reading. Schools...can make it easy and unrisky for children to take books home for the evening or weekend by worrying less about losing books to children and more about losing children to illiteracy. Over the last month and a half we have been immersed in books. You may have heard your child mention their reading "stamina". We have been graphing our ability to read silently as a class daily to increase our silent reading ability or "stamina". As you may imagine enticing 21 children to read silently for an extended period of time can be, at best, tricky. We are up to six minutes of sustained silent reading time with a goal of ten minutes on a consistent basis. From a starting point of 23 seconds, I think, we are well on our way to that goal! Keep up the reading at home to help your child increase their stamina inside and out of the classroom!
Fall Conferences are coming up! Please see the link below to sign up for a date and time. Please type in your name AND your child's name. The schedule is first come, first served, so if your schedule is restrictive, you may want to sign up as soon as possible. Fall Conferences are a time for parents and teacher to meet; please arrange for child care for your children. The purpose for the fall conference is to discuss progress your child has made thus far, and to set goals for the year.
Conference Sign Up I look forward to meeting with each of you! We had an amazing time at the Dragon Dash this Thursday! The weather was beautiful, we all ran like the wind, and the otter pops were a stunning success! A big thank you to all of the parent volunteers that came. We couldn't have such a great event without you!
Currently our class is at 71% participation for collecting pledges. If we get to 80% participation we will earn a donut party. The kids are super excited about this! Pledges are being accepted until Oct. 8th (this Friday). If you have misplaced your child's Dragon Dash envelope you can go to the website below to contribute. www.pledgestar.com/findley Happy Fundraising! |
