Thank you for continuing to read with your child at home!
We have wrapped up our study of individual letters and will begin focusing on "word families" as well as continuing to grow our sight word vocabulary. If your child is still working on identifying all letters/sounds, please practice a little bit each night until they have mastered all of them. This will benefit them greatly in their growth as a reader and writer. As we look at characters in books, we have been noticing that characters in fiction books often have a problem, then take steps toward finding a solution. We had fun reading our "just right" books while using sticky notes to mark examples of relationships we found in our books.
Math wizards have been practicing composing and decomposing numbers using math racks and number bonds.
Ask your child:
-After reading a story together. Can you name the characters in the story? Did the character have a problem? How did he/she solve this problem?
What happened in the story beginning? middle? end?
-What topics do you like to write about in your journal? How do you spell "my," "go," "the," and," "see?" Which sight word song is your favorite?
-Tell me an addition or subtraction number story. Can you draw a picture or number bond to match? Can you write a number sentence to go with it?
